On documentary practice: before the photo, after the idea.

U.P is a space for thinking about visual practice in documentary, examining how projects begin, how they take form, and how they construct meaning.

Together, Undocumented and Photo form an oxymoron: the latent idea preceding image-making, and the image as its tangible outcome.

Undocumented refers to the inception of a project—the concept that shapes its method, its visual language, and the way it is investigated. It is what precedes the image, and what remains embedded within it, often invisible yet decisive.

While grounded in photographic and archival approaches to documenting, the platform remains open to other forms of storytelling, including moving image and AI-generated visual practices.

Curated by Nicola Moscelli, U.P explores the development of his visual projects alongside interviews, book reviews, and reflections on what it means to document, today.
